It looks like if a student is from out of state and applied to our prestigious UC system they had a slight advantage compared to California residents. This may be unwelcome news to a lot of you but keep in mind that as a whole, the UC system lost a staggering amount of revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A mechanism of inflating admission figures from out of state students allows them, in many ways, to recuperate that blunt hit to the system since they can charge much more than those who are residents of the state.
