The 9th Grade Blueprint is a private, fixed-scope planning engagement that builds your student's complete four-year roadmap: course sequencing mapped to UC a-g requirements, an extracurricular strategy with real depth, GPA targets by university tier, and a testing timeline. Built while every option is still open.
Complimentary fit call • 12 families per cohort • 100% of your Blueprint fee credits toward full counseling
Every spring, families sit down with us for the first time in 11th grade. Smart, motivated students with strong grades. And we have to deliver the same hard news: the options narrowed two years ago, quietly, and nobody noticed.
UC and selective private admissions read course rigor in sequence. A 9th grade placement decision can silently cap the highest math a student can reach by senior year. No amount of junior-year effort reopens it.
Admissions offices reward depth, not collection. Three years of joining a little of everything produces a resume with no story. Depth takes time, which means the direction has to be chosen early.
The summers after 9th and 10th grade are the highest-leverage free time your student will ever have. Most families discover this after those summers are gone. The strongest applications are built in June and July.
Same student, same ability, same schools on the list. The only difference is when the strategy starts.
| Decision area | Blueprint family, starts in 9th | Typical family, starts in 11th |
|---|---|---|
| Course rigor | Honors and AP ladder sequenced from day one. Every a-g box planned, not discovered. | Sequence gaps surface during junior-year audits, when the highest tracks are already out of reach. |
| UC GPA | Enters 10th grade, the first year that counts, with targets and a plan already in place. | Learns how the UC GPA works after most of it has already been earned. |
| Extracurriculars | Two to three directions chosen early. Four years of visible depth and leadership by application season. | A long list of one-year memberships. No narrative, no leadership arc, no time left to build one. |
| Summers | Three high-leverage summers used deliberately: programs, projects, or work chosen with deadlines met. | Two of three strategic summers already spent before anyone asked what they were for. |
| Testing | PSAT, SAT, and ACT sequenced around coursework so prep never collides with grades. | Testing crammed into junior year alongside the heaviest course load of high school. |
| Financial positioning | FAFSA base-year calendar understood while there is still time to act on it. | Base year discovered after it has already happened. |
The Blueprint is not advice you'll half-remember from a meeting. It is a document: built by a UCLA-certified counseling team, specific to your student, delivered in two weeks.
Semester-by-semester sequencing mapped to UC a-g requirements, with an honors and AP ladder calibrated to your student's actual capacity. Rigorous, not reckless.
Clear, honest GPA benchmarks for top-tier UC, mid-tier UC, CSU, and selective private paths, so "doing well" has a definition.
A depth-over-breadth plan: 2 to 3 candidate directions drawn from your student's genuine interests, first concrete steps for each, and, just as important, what to quit.
Three ranked summer options (programs, projects, or work), each with application deadlines, so the highest-leverage weeks of the year don't evaporate.
When to test, when to prep, and when not to bother, sequenced against the course map so testing never collides with grades.
Your student's early read against the 400+ variables in our proprietary decision-support system. No other firm can put this page in front of you.
Every date that matters, loaded live into our client planning platform during your family session: deadlines, checkpoints, and decision windows.
The page parents tell us they value most: the specific ways this plan could go sideways, and the early signals to watch for.
Includes a 30-minute end-of-year check-in the following May or June to review results against plan and set 10th grade course selection.
Parent and student questionnaires, an interests inventory, and records collection through our secure client platform. About 45 minutes of your time, on your schedule.
A one-on-one working session with your student: interests, strengths, appetite for rigor, and the beginnings of 2 to 3 spike directions. Students leave owning the plan, not just receiving it.
Your counseling team drafts the full 12 to 15 page document: course map, targets, activity strategy, summer plan, testing timeline, and the Power 400 baseline.
We walk your family through the Blueprint page by page and load the milestone calendar live into your client portal. You leave with the document, the plan, and every date through junior fall.
The Power 400 is Premier College Guidance's proprietary decision-support system, built from 18 years of case data to evaluate academic positioning, institutional merit patterns, and long-term return on investment. Your student's Blueprint includes their first baseline reading, so every recommendation in the plan is grounded in evidence, not opinion.
It is also why the Blueprint compounds. When your student reaches junior year, we are not starting over; we are measuring against a baseline set in 9th grade.
Compare: full junior-year college counseling engagements commonly run several thousand dollars, built on whatever transcript exists by then. The Blueprint makes sure it's a transcript worth building on.
We accept 12 Blueprint families per enrollment window to protect delivery quality. When the cohort fills, enrollment closes until the next season.
"We are 100% happy with our decision to work with PCG. Not only navigating the various details of the college admissions journey, but also partnering with our son (and us) along the way. We felt supported and given options throughout." Premier College Guidance parent • Yelp review • 4.6★ across 35 reviews
